Information We Collect and How We Use It

Politistream is primarily designed to help you share information with the world. Most of the information you provide to us is information you are asking us to make public. This includes not only the messages you Stream and the metadata provided with Streams, such as when you Streamed, the people you follow, the Streams you mark as favorites or ReStream and many other bits of information. Additionally, your information may be collected and used as follows:

·         When you create or reconfigure a Politistream account, you provide some personal information, such as your name, username, password, and email address. Some of this information, for example, your name and username, is listed publicly, including on your profile page and in search results.

·         Political party user information such as party name and leader biography is kept in the public view at all times.

·         Posting of streams and polls can be shared with the public and/or user connection groups.  Streams and polls cannot be kept private, as a private stream or poll would generate no activity.

·         You may provide additional information that is public, such as a short biography, your location or a picture. We may use your contact information to send you information about our Services or to market to you. If you email us, we may keep your message, email address and contact information to respond to your request. Providing the additional information described in this section is entirely optional.

·         We may also collect and use your information to provide and measure use of our services and improve them over time.

·         Politistream does not accept, store or access any credit card information on this web site.

·         From time to time, with your consent we may share or disclose your information, such as when you use a third party web client or application to access your Politistream account.

·         We may preserve or disclose your information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation or legal request; to protect the safety of any person; to address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect Politistream's rights or property.

·         In the event that Politistream is involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction. The promises in this policy will apply to your information as transferred to the new entity.

·         We may share or disclose your non-private, aggregated or otherwise non-personal information.

CHILDREN UNDER 13

Politistream is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect or use personal information from children under 13.

THIRD PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS

We engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to us. We may share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these functions and provide such services, and only pursuant to obligations mirroring the protections of this policy.

ACCESS TO EMAIL CONTACTS FOR INVITATION PURPOSES

Politistream provides a mechanism to allow you to invite your GMail, Yahoo! and Hotmail account contacts.  We have implemented the OAuth security protocol in order to help protect your email and other private information. Using OAuth, we never have access to or store your email login information.

If you wish to invite your friends and colleagues from your email contact list to join Politistream, you will be redirected to a customized login page hosted by your email account provider.  You will log in and be asked if you wish to authorize Politistream to access your contact list.  Granting this access will only allow Politistream access to the contact list itself; any other information you may have is kept private including your account provider, email and password.

Once you have granted access to your contact list, Politistream will present your list of contacts to you and allow you to select the contact(s) that you wish to invite to Politistream.  Any information pertaining to contacts who you do not select to be invited to Politistream will be deleted from our servers; only information pertaining to contacts who you have invited is retained.

DATA SECURITY

All user data is stored in a password-protected database.  Any sensitive user data (e.g., passwords) is encrypted by a proprietary algorithm before insertion into the database.
